Five of the Earth’s Greatest Lost Treasures
What do a treasure map, clues, and a big chest filled with sparkling gold coins have in common? They are all found in pirate and detective stories. In these stories, you always have to be clever, and find the treasure before it’s too late. But this isn’t just a story. Real, hidden treasures exist all over the world! More are discovered all the time! Who knows? Maybe you’ll be the one to find the next one! And, in case you want a place to start, here are some of the biggest treasures that have disappeared without a trace.
      The Pharaohs’ Missing Treasure:
Most archeologists would agree that the most famous Egyptian pharaoh’s tomb is King Tut’s tomb, which was discovered unopened in 1922. But since then, many other of these burial chambers have been found. King Tutankhamen’s tomb was filled to the brim with so much treasure, and so many jewels, it took Carter ten years just to catalog all of it! There is one big difference between King Tutankhamen’s tomb and the others though; can you imagine what it is? That’s right, the other tombs’ treasure chambers were empty. Nobody knows where all of these treasures ended up, though most people think that they were taken by tomb robbers or Ancient Egyptian priests. One theory, however, is that one ruler, Herihor, stole all this treasure and kept it for himself. Since Herihor’s tomb has never been found, many scholars think that much of the missing treasures might be there. But until now, there is no sign of this treasure-trove tomb.
