and English. It happened spontaneously, I suppose, since our father always
spoke to us in English and everyone else spoke to us in Spanish. It became
quite “normal” to speak mainly Spanish; but if addressed in English, we
would respond in English.
It was here that I first learned about numbers. I would practice counting to
myself up into the thousands just to see if I could do it. I would also count
by fives, tens and hundreds. To me it seemed like so much fun! It was all very
neat and orderly.
