Hi, Tavern Players! Tavern Players’ sports are alive and well in Mid-State Florida.

Manager of Beyond Billiards, in Davie, Florida Lauren Upton says “what are you waiting for get your ass in here!”
Our Bartender DJ was on point when it came to our touristy questions.
Recently while traveling in Florida I stumbled on three independently owned establishments that are thriving

Our Bartender was Ryan Schrock, he
was very accommodating and attentive to our requests, all with upbeat enthusiasm.
Beyond Billiards is managed by Lauren Upton who was also filled with that upbeat enthusiasm.
Lauren made time for some pictures as well, even though the place was jumping.
Thank you, Lauren and Ryan, for making us feel welcome and comfortable.
We at Tavern Players Magazine always love places that accommodate motorcycle enthusiasts, with our home base being in Laconia, NH.
The next place we wandered to was CJ’s Saloon in Riverview, Florida.
Thank you, DJ, for your professional service.
We played pool, met some locals, all while listening to a wide variety of music,
Our last stop was BC Billiards of Sebring, Florida.

Personally, I can say that the local 518 Foosball Club has adopted the Monster DYP, a variation of the Swiss system, for all our Friday night DYP events. Almost all the players will tell you, we love it! Even if we have a small number of players (four teams minimum), we usually hold seven rounds of constant play. Everyone gets to play with a different partner each round. Once we hold the knockout round, or the finals, we are paired with another player into double elimination rounds, using the more traditional best of three game matches to determine the winner.

We really enjoy the fact that none of the players worry about being paired for the whole tourney with a less experienced player, simply because you get to play with a wide variety of partners.

odd number of players, the results can be skewed. Without completely transparent results, players may feel as if they aren’t properly seeded when the finals are held.
Since our last Smashdown here in the 518, we have decided our next regional tourney is going to be a limited Swiss-style event. With six tables, we will open the competition to 24 players, first-come, first- served. Entry fees will be collected during advance registration.
Moving forward with a new approach to competitive foosball has its risks, especially if the players don’t see the full benefit.

Do you remember this tagline?
Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sport... the thrill of victory... and the agony of defeat... the human drama of athletic competition...

Named by Time Magazine in 2007 to its list of 100 best television programs of all time, ABC’s Wide World of Sports was an anthology and tribute to diverse competitions from around the world that would rarely appear on American TV. Darts certainly fits that category, so it’s a shame the show was discontinued in 1998. (Yes, this is an article for the old-timers)
Live streaming has certainly filled the void created by major networks who ignore darts in favor of spelling bees, cornhole, or even professional adult tag. If ESPN and Fox Sports won’t air the darts, then let the Internet democratize the coverage. There are more and more options for darts broadcasts through your WiFi (PDCTV, DAZN, and others
free and subscription-based), plus the amateur st
