 King of Pubs Pool Series
The Finals for the 2021 Fall session of the “King of Pubs” was held at the Granite State Music Hall – Under Ground Lounge on January 7th, 8th and 9th 2022. It was a great event that started off on Friday night with 21 Qualifying Scotch Doubles Teams. Everyone who played in this event had 5 or more shows throughout the session at any one location, allowing them to qualify/play. There were some very strong pairings, some came out on top, and others that were expected to did not. It seemed like we saw a lot of that over the weekend. There were a lot of close matches, but things moved along smoothly. With Tournament Directors Eric and Brenda Smith along with Cherri DiSilva and the new system of using the TV to get
matches out to the players, helped to make things go a lot smoother. On Friday night it was Team Maine winning Scotch Doubles, Corey Tapley with Partner Ben LeBlanc and a strong 2nd place showing from Shawn Feaster from Laconia playing with his long-time friend Brendan Lewis from Connecticut.
In the Major Event, Saturday Qualifier Singles, Al Jaynes from Plymouth, NH took a big 1st Place. It is not Al’s first time being up at the Top of “King of Pubs. In the Spring of 2009, Al took 2nd place behind Dave Hambly from Vermont, in the Fall of 2010, he took 3rd place with Gary Girard from Vermont taking 1st, in the Winter/Spring of 2011 Al once again took 2nd place behind Jim O’Neil from Laconia, NH and in 2013 he took his
first Championship beating out his long-time friend Dean Rodgers From Campton, NH. It goes to show you just don’t know when it’s going to be your day again. Ironically Al and Dean were in the Top 3 together this year.
Saturday is considered the day for opening ceremonies. This is the big day; it is the day that any player who has qualified for the Singles Event gets to play for almost $3,500. paying out 24 places and no entry fee. Not only that, but they also get to play in a second chance event later in the day if they did not place in the top 24, with an additional $270.00 added with a minimal entry fee. These are players who have played at least 14 times, were in the top 65 in points, and played at 3 different
