WELCOME TO BUNKHOUSE
We are happy that you are here.
When I started this company on South Congress in the mid 1990’s, I envisioned a place
that inspired people with good design and thoughtful service, but I wanted something
more. I wanted guests to arrive and feel that they were home amongst friends. I wanted
staff to enjoy hanging out with each other. I wanted these to be places where Austinites
and travelers, guests, customers and employees all felt a sense of belonging.
Over the years, we have built businesses that were not only great at their primary work–
hotel, coffee shop, restaurant, bar – but that were also places of dynamic community
activity. There was no master plan for this; we just did what felt right at the time and let
things evolve naturally. What started as three local bands in the courtyard of the San José
evolved into South by San José with attendance in the tens of thousands in the parking
lot over the course of five days. From pet parades to chili cook-offs to music festivals,
we built traditions that gave people a place to hang out and an opportunity to support
important charitable causes. And in working these events together, we’ve gotten to know
each other better and gotten to share the experience of creating something meaningful.
We started having some pretty legendary employee parties. Both within the company and
among the community, we built Bunkhouse on the foundation of creating a good time for
ourselves and others.
I am really proud of the work we do. We’ve earned a reputation for building something
special and that success is a direct reflection of the talent, creativity and hard work of
our staff. As we grow, our challenge will be to figure out how to preserve the strength of
our community and the uniqueness of our culture. Our ongoing success depends on you. I
hope that you will get involved in Bunkhouse in a way that inspires you. Share your ideas,
attend events, participate, be creative – your job can be as amazing as you are willing to
make it.
Welcome to the Bunkhouse family, and thanks in advance for all your hard work.
Sincerely,
Liz Lambert
