Three—Jungle-Gym Catastrophe
“Wait until my parents see me using my left hand!” said Toni. “This is fun.”
Everything was quiet in the kitchen for the next few minutes. Each person was very busy eating a plump peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a plump peanut butter and jam sandwich or a plump egg-salad sandwich—and holding it in their left hand.
Forty-eight hours later, the doorbell rang. “I’m here to sign my name on Aimi’s new pink cast,” said Tad, when Grami answered the door.
“Me, too,” said Toni. “It should be dry by now. It’s been 48 hours, hasn’t it?”
“Yes,” said Grami, smiling at the twins. “It’s been 48 hours. Welcome to Aimi’s cast-signing party.”
“Hi, Aimi,” said Tad, as the twins walked into the kitchen. “We’re here for your cast-signing party.”
“Yes,” said Toni, “we’re here for your cast-signing party.” Grami had put felt markers, pens with glitter, fancy stickers, and colorful crayons on the kitchen table.
Aimi carefully rested her right arm on the kitchen table. “Listen!” she said, tapping her cast gently with the tip of a felt marker.
