MONDAY EARLY LEARNING 2020: Leading & Learning in the New Decade
 2.03 | Tackling Transitions
CKC | K2.1 C2
Brandon Williams, Owner/Operator, Early Childhood TLC
Transitions can be tough, especially if children are asked to sit still and remain quiet while simply waiting. This session will review best practices for managing transitions and demonstrate activities to help teachers facilitate the various transitions that take place throughout their daily routine. We’ll also discuss strategies for minimizing transitions.
2.04 | New Visions for Child Care | Federal Panel
CKC | K6.10 C2
Moderator: Sue Russell, Executive Director, T.E.A.C.H. National Center; Panelists: Patricia A. Cole, Senior Director of Federal Policy, Zero to Three; Katherine Gallagher Robbins, Director, Child Care And Early Education, CLASP; Natalie Renew, Director, Home Grown; Tommy Sheridan, Deputy Director, National Head Start Association; Albert Wat, Senior Policy Director, Alliance For Early Success
A recent article on Fatherly.com asked a group of national experts “How to Save Child Care” and “How can we fix
it?” We are asking our federal panelists to help us vision moving forward in this time of COVID. How do we take the challenges and vulnerabilities of the sector that have become so apparent as a result of the pandemic, learn and move forward. We are asking them for their vision ... It’s 2025 ... where will child care be ... what will it look like ... what will we need to get there?
Session 3 | 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM
3.01 | The Social-Emotional Learning Cohort 2.0

Tracy Larson, Director, University of Pittsburgh; Cecelia Midberry, PreK Teacher, Pittsburgh Public Schools Early Childhood program; Kim Delefemine, Program Officer, Pittsburgh Public Schools Early Childhood Program; Anna Dolter, Pre-K Education Assistant, Pittsburgh Public Schools EC; Sherlyn Harrison, Early Head Start Coordinator, Pittsburgh Public Schools Early Childhood Program; Dan Richason, Co-founder, System 1-2-3

Next, each panelist will share their experience of being part of the improvement community and project. Join us to gain awareness and understanding of specific strategies to improve social- emotional learning and support with children and adults in early childhood settings (i.e., students, teachers, and parents).
3.02 | Trauma Informed Assessment in Early Childhood
CKC | K4.15 C2
Sarah Brown, Associate Professor, Indiana University of PA
Trauma in early childhood undermines children’s ability to learn, create attachments, form relationships with peers, and follow the rules of a classroom. There has been much research on creating trauma-sensitive classrooms, and we will review that research and expand upon it in light of the current world events. Participants will leave with information they can directly apply in their classrooms.
