EARLY LEARNING 2020: Leading & Learning in the New Decade MONDAY
3.03 | Big Ideas for Little Minds
CKC | K2.9 C1
Victoria Moyer, Early Learning Coordinator, Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Lancaster County; Jenn McCormick, STEM Specialist, Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Lancaster County
This a workshop that will help you to learn a way to approach the Scientific Method and the Engineering Design Process with preschool students. Children’s natural tendency to ask questions lends itself to inquiry-based exploration and allows you to introduce these approaches at an early age. We will identify how to take these “big” ideas and shape them into pieces for the little mind.
3.04 | Maternal Mental Health and Its Effects on Child Development
CKC | K1.3 C1
Alyssa Savitski, Family Development Specialist, Outreach Center for Community Resources; Bridget Wickizer, Family Development Specialist, Outreach Center for Community Resources
We will introduce the topic of maternal mental health and discuss the different forms of mental health issues that a mother may face. We will then discuss how if a mother’s mental health is not taken care of in the first two years after birth, it
has effects on a child’s overall development. We will also talk about how this impact on development can affect a child’s school readiness.
3.05 | New Visions for Child Care l PA Providers Speak Out
CKC | K6.10 C2

A recent article on Fatherly.com asked a group of national experts “How to Save Child Care” and “How can we fix it?” We are asking our federal panelists for their vision. How do we take the challenges and vulnerabilities of the sector that have become so apparent as a result of the pandemic, learn and move forward? We are asking ... It’s 2025 ... where will child care be ... what will it look like ... what will we need to get there?
