made him feel better. I certainly knew that was true.
After his doctor appointments came and went I asked him what
he was told, and he said he could not remember. I asked him how that was possible. Didn't he take notes? Wasn't a friend with him? He said the doctors said things he did not understand, that they were reading off test results, and it was not possible to remember all that stuff, but basically they said they didn't know what was wrong, and that they needed him to go for even more tests.
I told him I was going to come see him immediately, but he told me to wait until the next tests were done, and that he was doing okay, and was feeling a little bit better because many of his symptoms seemed to be going away.
But I was tired of being in the dark, and not knowing what was going on, so ‐ without telling my dad ‐ I booked a flight to fly down to Florida to see him at his next doctor's appointment. I arrived at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, rented a car, and drove straight to the hospital.
When I arrived it took me awhile to figure out how to navigate through that massive place, but I finally found my dad. He looked weak, thin & tired, but not nearly as bad as I was led to believe. He was still walking, and seemed strong. He was very surprised and happy when he saw me. The look on his face was priceless. I
