am so glad I did it. I can see the look on his face right now. Classic! I told my dad that I was there to find out what was going on. I asked him to give the doctor permission to talk to me ‐
alone. He did so, and the nurse led me into another room to wait for the doctor, while my dad sat in the waiting room with his friend.
When the doctor entered the room I explained that I was very frustrated, and that I wanted to know what was going on with my dad. The doctor said he was not sure, so they were going to run some more tests. At that point I asked the doctor point blank if Johnny's condition was terminal.
“Does my dad have Cancer?"
The doctor looked at me as if I was the dumbest guy on earth. He said, “No. Your father doesn’t have Cancer. If he did his white blood cells would be elevated, and he would have many other symptoms that he does not have. So don't worry about that.”
Relieved, I went out to see my dad. His friend seemed glad that I was there, and he said he wanted to go home, and since I was there he could now do that. I don't even remember if he said goodbye or not. He just quickly turned and left us. It was a good thing I had a rental car. My dad asked me how long I was staying and I replied, “I bought a one way ticket. I'll stay here as long as you need me.”
