  Who is Squirrel Nutkin?
Once again, the renowned and celebrated Beatrix Potter captivates us with her beautiful illustrations and storyline in the second of her 23 books, written in 1903. Potter commences her tale by taking us into the depths of the forest, to a little creature known as Squirrel Nutkin, along with his brother Twinkleberry and their many cousins. Nutkin and his family must survive the harsh, cold winter ahead of them. In order to do so, gathering a supply of food that will last them many cold months is of utmost importance.
In this tale these little squirrels navigate the cold waters in order to get to Owl Island and it's plentiful nuts and acorns. These determined little creatures devise a clever little plan that gets them onto the island, but once there, they are at the mercy of Old Brown. Getting in Old Browns good graces comes between them and benefiting from this land of plenty.
While Old Brown is otherwise quite agreeable, the young Squirrel Nutkin imposes upon Old Browns gracious demeanor, and puts it to the test, compromising the future of his brother and cousins, with his excessive impertinence and disrespect. Old Brown has reached the limit of his tolerance level and will teach young Squirrel Nutkin a lesson or two about showing respect to the elderly. And well, to put it in a nutshell, you will most definitely want to see what happens to this poor cheeky little squirrel who has yet to learn some manners.
