 The Value In Juicing...
I am a big proponent of juicing, in spite of the many controversial comments I have received from individuals who do not understand its value in context. One of the biggest concerns I have come across is the fact that juicing removes much of the fibre, which everyone including myself, knows is very beneficial for the body. That, in my humble opinion, is the reason for the big smoothie trend we are seeing these days, and all the high powered blenders that have flooded the market in recent years. A blender that will take whole vegetables and basically emulsify them into soup broth while maintaining all the fibre. Personally, I love smoothies and believe they have a solid place in our diets, however juicing also has its place. Juicing has the ability that smoothies do not, just as smoothies have powers that juicing can’t compete with (ie: providing high doses of fibre that can reduce your risk of getting diverticulitis, often leading to cancer and a whole heap of other medical concerns you never signed up for). So if getting enough fibre is your problem, then keep on making those yummy smoothies. You do not buy a
frying pan if you need a bowl. However that does not negate the value of having a frying pan. Each product has its purpose and value. If you have a low immune system due to vitamin and mineral deficiency, you would have to pound down an inordinate amount of smoothies to equal the amount of vitamins a glass of freshly made juice will give you. This thought kind of puts things into perspective doesn’t it? For example, I juice a combination of fruits and veggies for my husband every morning. Yes, just one 12 oz glass and he consumes more than enough vitamins to function optimally on a daily basis. It doesn’t matter how many empty calories he eats in a day, juicing insures that his body will not be deprived of the vitamins he needs to maintain a healthy immune system. (not that I encourage eating empty calories, but let’s face it, none of us has any control over what our kids or mates consume when we are not around to monitor them). For those of you who are brought to tears by the thought of wasting all the fibre, there are lots of ways you can utilize that fibre. You can put it into soups and cookies and other products you cook. There are ample recipes out there if you care
