Issue Background
The legislative process is chaotic; to influence it we must be very organized.
TRIP OBJECTIVES
• Educate bankers on bank legislation and regulation
• Engage bankers in discussions with legislators and regulators
• Lobby for desired bills
INVOLVEMENT OVERALL – ON THE TRIP
• At the 9/12 planning session, participating bankers will be asked to volunteer for
various topics based on their expertise – all bankers are asked to fill at least one
slot
• There are more topics than we have time to discuss so we need to stick to
priorities, which we need to set on 9/12 – suggestions are below
• At the Congressional meetings, all bankers should:
➢ Introduce yourself (mention bank, assets, employees, geographic footprint,
years in business, lending focus)
➢ Make your key point and support it with data and/or anecdotes of customer
impact
➢ Offer yourself as a resource
➢ After the trip, follow up with a quick thank you note reiterating key points and
offering help
• We will have a group leader for each discussion and designated topic leaders,
but all bankers should engage in the discussion as they desire
• The below grid is a starting point for determining topics and leaders – on 9/12 we
will edit it and determine assignments
SUGGESTED DISCUSSIONS – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
WE WILL NOT MEET WITH ALL MEMBERS OF CONGRESS FOR COLORADO
