always so much to accomplish. There is never enough compassion, never enough generosity, humility, purity. The moment you begin to feel that you have acquired all the necessary Divine qualities and no longer have any imperfections, your religious movement becomes dull and your spiritual progress obstructed.
Viraha—The Pain of Separation from God
An aspirant discovers a Divine restlessness to be united with the Supreme. You discover the fact that you have been somehow separated from God, from your sweet home, from the Divine Beloved, from the endless ocean of Bliss—and until you become reunited, you cannot rest in peace.
“Mourning” refers to the mystical concept of viraha as presented in Bhakti Yoga. A person who develops a spiritual sensitivity realizes he has an internal restlessness that Sages consider the most wonderful attainment in human life. Every human being weeps for nothing, sighs for nothing. But when you become restless for Divine union, when you begin to shed tears due to the pain of separation from God, when your heart struggles like a sh that has been separated from its life-giving waters, then that is the most glorious development for a human being. It is this form of “mourning” that eventually draws to an aspirant the blessing of supreme comfort.
