one, the owner goes and sells everything in order to buy that pearl.
(CEV Matthew 13:45-46)
This parable illustrates the attainment of perfect renunciation resulting in Self-realization. Having found the pearl of Atman (the Self), one negates the world of names and forms, considering them to be illusory.
7. The Parable of the Net
The Kingdom of Heaven is like what happens when a net is thrown into a lake and catches all kinds of sh. When the net is full, it is dragged to the shore, and the shermen sit down to separate the sh. They keep the good ones, but throw the bad ones away.
(CEV Matthew 13:47-48)
Fishermen cast their net into the sea, gathering all types of sh—good and bad. Having hauled the net onto the beach, the shermen select the sh that are good and toss away those that are bad. Similarly in life, one casts a net into the world and nds all types of circumstances, personalities and opportunities. Aspirants use their re ective mind to decipher what “ sh” to keep for the purpose of reaching the Kingdom of Heaven and what “ sh” to throw back into the ocean of the world.
