surprised that He, who was supposed to be very tired and thirsty, was holding a pleasant conversation instead of lying down and waiting for sustenance. So when Jesus knew what the disciples were thinking, He turned to them and said, “The food that sustains me is different from the provisions that you have brought. The food that sustains Me comes from God. The Divine Will I perform is my nourishment, and it is that which sustains me. That “food” does not depend upon a future harvest time. That eternal harvest is right now; the harvest is ready and the corn is ripe.”
Christ, speaking in riddles said,
“Some plant the seed, and others harvest the crop. I am sending you to harvest crops in elds where others have done all the hard work.” (CEV John 4:37-38)
The implication is that Sages and Saints have sown seeds and have established a spiritual basis. Those who develop purity of heart enter a mystical eld to reap the harvest. What is the harvest that Jesus refers to? It is the harvest of spiritual joy and ful llment. Good thoughts, charitable acts, generosity, humility and faith are like seeds of everlasting values sown deep within one’s heart. When the harvest manifests, it is a harvest of Eternal Life.
