Chapter Twelve Be Born in the Spirit
The secret of spiritual life lies in being born in the Spirit. Satan represents the ego. When you are born in the body, you identify with
your ego. You belong to a particular family, race, religion, country or nancial status and the ego is very proud of all these. Ego gives you the feeling of either being superior or inferior to others because of the values determined by society. In this way, you are identi ed with a limited personality who is subject to birth and death. Your attainments are con ned to this world of time and space. Your life is as short as a dewdrop hanging from a leaf, trembling at every puff of breeze that blows.
Your ego is proud of your attainments—a family, a home, education, a career, fame, nancial status, spiritual authority in a church, etc. And although you must be practical in pursuing these things, keep in mind that a strong dependence on them implies that
