there?” asked the lady. St. Peter replied, “I am a stranger. I would like to rest for a while and have a little food and drink. I am very tired, hungry and thirsty.”
The lady shut the door in his face and said, “I do not have the time or the interest in giving you all that. Why should I help those who are lazy and who do not work for themselves? Whatever wealth I have attained I have worked for. You can’t share my wealth just by knocking at my door, so go your own way!”
Peter went on his way and knocked at the door of a poor lady who spun cloth and sold it at the market. When she opened the door, he again asked for a little food, drink and a bit of time to rest. She welcomed him in, saying, “I am very poor. However, whatever I have I will share with you. There is nothing more delightful than sharing what I have with someone.”
St. Peter was very pleased. He ate the food, rested and then departed. But before leaving he blessed the lady, saying, “Tomorrow, the  rst job that you perform will continue until the end of that day.” Although the lady couldn’t understand what these words meant, she thanked him graciously.
The next day, the lady was planning her projects for the day, and the idea to measure the cloth that she had previously spun came to her mind. She then took a yardstick and started unrolling and measuring her
