or age. Christian thought views time as linear and, therefore, does not promote the idea of repeated incarnations of Christ. Vedic thought, on the other hand, sees time as an eternally cyclical process that is more favorable to the idea of repeated incarnations of God. Thus, Rama, Christ, Krishna and others will manifest again and again (under different names) to relieve the earth of the burden of unrighteousness and to promote the path of godliness.
It is easy, however, for a thoughtful aspirant to understand that both the Christian and Vedic concepts of Avatara are relative in nature. To a person whose mind is steeped in devotion, this world is an expression of Divinity. Therefore, the Divine Self perpetually manifests for that devotee. The Divinity is here and now, transcending all relative concepts of time and space.
Therefore, it is not necessary to establish the historical authenticity of the details of the lives of Christ, Buddha, Rama or Krishna, or to accept or reject their miraculous deeds. These renowned spiritual beings—symbolic of the Spiritual Consciousness in man—exist always. They existed in the past and will continue to exist in the future, because they are the Reality transcending the limitations of the human mind.
From a more philosophical point of view, every human bei ng and their life on earth has a universal meaning. Therefore, that life can be understood
