The vision of unity towers over everything else and penetrates your very bones. You cannot be a separate individual even for a single moment. However, the problem with human existence is that it is de ned by illusions; you constantly con ne yourself to certain mental concepts. An individual soul in the state of ignorance resembles a frog that has hopped into a dark well and can’t get out.
However, the pressure of the spirit within you propels you to break through the veils of illusion to emerge from the dark well of ignorance. In other words, in your everyday life you allow that Cosmic vision to pierce the crust of your egoistic vision. Symbolically speaking, egoistic vision is “cruci ed” by the Cosmic vision. If you understand this cruci xion, the world becomes a festivity.
When you begin to perceive the higher spiritual realms through spiritual practices, you begin to transcend the horizontal aspect of the Cross: being dependent on objects, people and circumstances within the world to ful ll your pursuit of happiness. Even when many or all of your dreams are ful lled here on earth, eventually you are again left with the question: Where is the ultimate state of joy?
At that point, there is nowhere else to go. You have to follow the vertical direction of the Cross. Seeing the limitations woven within the objects and circumstances of time and space, you begin to pursue
