The earthquake symbolizes the upheaval of the unconscious as impure impressions are propelled to the surface and replaced by pure impressions. The Angel of the Lord is symbolic of intuitive vision. Rolling back the stone refers to the removal of bondage (in the form of ignorance), while the snow and lightning suggest purity and revelation.
The very being of Lord Jesus passes through the process of cruci xion so that He might be resurrected as the Spiritual Being that blends with the Heavenly Father. Spiritual aspiration grows into the state of intuitional vision, which cruci es ego- consciousness and sentimental attachments to the world and resurrects the soul from the world of death and mortality. Thus resurrected, the soul realizes its essential identity with the Divine Self and attains the Kingdom of Heaven.
Thus, in Vedanta, the resurrection is symbolic of the attainment of Jivan Mukti or Liberation in life. In Christian terms, Lord Jesus ascended to the Kingdom of Heaven to be united with the resurrected body. Vedantically speaking, He realized His identity with the Absolute Self and became free of the cycles of birth and death.
