The greedy mind is not aware of the darker implications of what that action will do to him or others. It does not perceive the pain it will in ict, or what the person will feel if they lose things that they have loved or righteously earned by hard work. Due to intense sel shness, the mind behaves like a depraved vulture and promotes indulgence in falsehood.
The Many Forms of Stealing
Stealing does not simply imply breaking into someone’s house or business and physically taking something that does not belong to you. Every ethical person knows that overt stealing is immoral and degrading to a human being and should not be done. However, there are subtler forms of theft that many people never re ect upon.
If you develop jealousy towards the prosperity of others and feel that their happiness should have been yours—that is a subtle form of psychological stealing. If you obstruct someone’s progress, or interfere with his opportunities, or redirect money towards yourself that should have been his in order to become wealthier or more prosperous yourself—that is stealing. If you go out of your way to harm others for revenge—you are a thief. If you misappropriate others’ possessions by adopting any
