chapter one 53
energy is dissipated because he constantly thinks about how he can increase his fortune and become wealthier. He may be so greedy that he lacks even the contentment of any ordinary man.
Although you may have a lot of money in the bank and you may be the legal owner of a vast amount of property or a big business, you may not enjoy true prosperity psychologically or spiritually. If all your prosperity is in possessions, in lawyers and in property deeds—but not in your own heart, then you are truly not prosperous. When you are greedy, your will becomes weak. As a result of this weakness, you are not able to obtain the very objects that you greedily desire. Or if you do acquire them, they will become a source of pain.
There is a strange law operating in the Divine Plan: If you do not deserve an object that you desire, that object will reject you. Even if you succeed in possessing it, the object will be painful because it will create mental complexes. When you acquire wealth out of greed, that wealth creates fear because you will always be afraid of losing it. Further, you may want to assert that you are wealthy, and as a result you will become conceited, arrogant, and insensitive, preventing you from enjoying inner peace. Therefore, you will not really be able to enjoy your prosperity. As a result, prosperity becomes more of a curse than a boon.
