Chapter Two
The Two Greatest Commandments of Christ
In the New Testament a man approached Jesus, asking, “Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?” Jesus gave
the essence of His teachings in the following statements,
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the rst and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the laws and the prophets.
(KJB Matthew 22:36—40)
When understood in the light of Yoga, these commandments are seen as shining declarations of the need to practice Integral Yoga in daily life.
