you view the world as an organic whole, you become One with all. How can there be sel shness, anger, greed, and various other complexities in such a mind? If the mind glimpsed the essential unity that underlies all, if it recognized the Divine basis behind all names and forms, it would be free of every trace of violence and hatred.
If Christ’s vision of universal love is promoted, all that is auspicious will ow from that vision. Realizing the Divine harmony and universality of life is an attainment more glorious than climbing Mt. Everest and more exhilarating than stepping onto the moon. It is more powerful than nuclear bombs, and more enduring than time itself.
Universal Love is the foundation and support for all spiritual virtues. That is why Buddha gave great emphasis to the teaching: “Ahimsa Paramo Dharmah”—“Nonviolence is the greatest of all virtues.” Patanjali Maharshi also gave prominence to nonviolence and considered it as the basis of all other yamas (restraints) and niyamas (observances) on the path of Raja Yoga. This is also well expressed in the Biblical writing:
Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath ful lled the law...if there be any.
(KJ21 Romans 13:8-10)
