Thus, one test of your spiritual attainment is your ability to feel profound unity with all. When you authentically follow your spiritual path, there is an abiding sense of universality. Just as you are interested in removing your own discomforts, you begin to recognize others’ pain and your heart  ows with compassion towards alleviating that pain as well.
As this vision unfolds, you are  lled with profound universal love and compassion. You discover all humanity to be your neighbor. Indeed, this insight is not limited to humanity. It includes all forms of life; it includes the entirety of creation. The term “neighbor” is a symbol for all that is. All becomes yourself, and you love all as the Self.
As we have seen, Lord Jesus sums up all the commandments in these brief statements:
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart (devotion)
and with all thy soul (wisdom), and with all thy mind (meditation)
as well as
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. (sel ess service of God in all)
In a similar fashion, in the Bhagavad Gita (XVIII—65), Lord Krishna says:
Let your mind be absorbed in me (meditation), be devoted to me (devotion),
