when struck with an axe. These convey the secret messages regarding the perfection of Divine Love.
Divine Love expresses and even transcends patience, endurance and magnanimity. It inspires you to bless those who curse you and pray for those who hurt you. Human love, on the other hand, is painfully limited. It is a love that measures. Divine Love allows no space for thoughts such as, “I have helped that person for such a long time and given him so many gifts; how dare that person not be nice to me in return.” For this reason, Lord Jesus says, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect”—not perfect as a human being.
There is always limitation in human virtue, but an aspirant transcends it. To maintain constant effort in surmounting one’s limitations is the beckoning light of Christ’s teaching. Without magnanimity of heart, one cannot surpass the world and attain the Kingdom of Heaven, the highest victory in life.
Divine perfection should be kept before your mind as your ideal. Most people do not have a mystical grasp of the concept of perfection. There are many “perfectionists” in the world who throw aside or destroy their work if it does not meet their expectations. The perfectionist writes a letter to his friend, only to tear it up because it is not good enough. Of course one should always try to do one’s best, but too much involvement in being perfect in
