It’s the pedestaled-plane most of us have driven past many times over the years, usually with only a passing glance lest
we slow down the east/west traffic along Derry Road.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, at 11:00am
Enjoy a special presentation on the CF-100 CANUCK ALL WEATHER INTERCEPTOR by one of the men who actually flew in
it.
SEPT. 8, at 11:00am, don’t miss your chance to actually come visit the CF-100 on display at Paul Coffey Park south side of
Derry, east of Airport Road and just west of Goreway Dr., and get a first-hand perspective on what it was like to serve in
one, courtesy longtime CAHS Toronto Chapter (+ Executive Board) member Scott Maclagan, who as an RCAF Navigator
flew 306 missions in the CF-100 — four of them in this very aircraft! (flying out of RCAF Station North Bay the late
1950s).
A subsonic predecessor to A.V. Roe's CF-105 — the ill-fated Avro Arrow — the less-fabled but widely-used CF-100 was
designed in the late 1940’s to meet Canada’s need for an all-
weather, long-range fighter jet in the new Cold War era. The first flight of a CF-100 Mark 1 took place on January 19,
1950 — at the old Malton Airport nearby (now the northeast corner
of YYZ, Pearson International).
This free, one-time only event is part of 2018’s Doors Open Mississauga activities, and there should be plenty of free
parking at the Paul Coffey Malton Arena right next door (just to the east off Derry Rd).
It promises to be a memorable presentation on an important chapter in Canada’s aviation history. Hope to see you
there!
