Other great happenings were members achieving
Cross-Country readiness status, and the cherry on top
was an Air Cadet joining the Club on the the last few
weekends of the season to complete his training. The
forest fires put a halt on that during the summer and

summary of the Club’s activities for 2018. This year
was a mixed year. The Saskatoon Soaring Club had
many nice and long soaring flights, the longest being
415 km and also 3 separate gliders achieving 300km +
the same day (a first for us!). The Club certainly
achieved one of its main objectives by promoting the
growth of Cross Country flights despite not having as
many soaring friendly days as we did in 2017.
The Provincial Competitions took place middle of
summer, and the weather was looking very bad that
very morning, which seems to be a yearly
occurrence!! We went ahead with it despite the
conditions and by mid-day the sky began to clear a
little and thermals begain to form. It turned out to be
a fun and competitive day despite the slow start.
The season also had some diffiult moments, including
the passing of one of our dear members, instructor
and friend Capt. Randy Ives, we will remember him
fondly in the cockpit and by the BBQ !
