With joyous light,
A w ay from the city’s smoke and din,
Trying’ to flee from it and sin ;
In shame cast down,
'Neath the scorn and frown

The same blue eves—-the abode of tears.

While dark despair came creeping in,

With a yearning sigh,
A nd a heart-sick cry—
“ Oh, to wander away and die 1
God, let me die on m y mother's gravi,
