A Kid's Place was developed to provide a temporary home for children who were removed from the care of their parents. The campus provides five shelter houses and an Administration Building to house and care for the children on a temporary basis while a more permanent home is found for them. The Administration Building provides space for a variety of functions; Intake center, counseling, medical examinations, classrooms, offices for placement staff, law enforcement, and administrators, food service and dining/multi function room. There were as many user groups as there were functions, and Edge Architecture was instrumental in meeting with all of them and ensuring that their requirements were incorporated into the facility. The construction of the facility emphasized safety, and the building is fully sprinkled and has a very complete fire alarm system. A premium was placed on selecting finish materials that were not only economical and durable, but utilized a soothing palette of colors.
Edge Architecture provided full service Architecture and Interior Design services for the project, the majority of which were donated to the project, and also recruited manufacturers and installers to donate or substantially reduce the cost of their goods and services.
