Twist the working end around itself (not around
the standing part) at least three times. The
number of twists can be increased to boost the
grip of the knot, depending on the size and
weight of the object. Tighten by pulling on the
standing part.
Killick Hitch
A VARIATION OF THE TIMBER HITCH THAT PROVIDES
MORE SECURITY
When moving a heavy object, especially by dragging or
towing (even through water), the killick hitch (a timber hitch
with an additional half hitch) creates a more secure bond
between rope and object. Sometimes called the kelleg hitch,
this knot works well if the object to be moved is long. Small
boats sometimes use this hitch to attach oddly shaped and
heavy objects to the boat as an anchor.
