UST - STATE STANDARDS
The EPA was directed by the US Congress, (under Subtitle I of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act), to establish regulatory programs
that would prevent, detect and clean up releases from underground storage tank systems (UST) containing petroleum or hazardous substances.
In 1988 the EPA issued UST regulations establishing a number of corrective action requirements for UST owners and operators, including
the requirement to clean up soil and groundwater as needed to protect human health and the environment.
UST The EPA developed UST regulations that gave states the latitude to make their corrective action programs conform to meet their state’s needs
and circum- stances. EPA regulations do not specify UST cleanup levels, or the analytical protocol that the testing labs must follow. Many of
