2017 is the International Year of Sustainable Tourism. The key to sustainable tourism is an inclusive and
sistainable economic growth for the locals and resource-e cient and environmental-friendly travel. In
addition, there should be a mutual understanding of the cultural value and heritage of the location between
the tourists and the local residents. When we think of tourism in Hong Kong, we think of shopping, dinning,
theme parks and modern architectures. Nature is not the rst thing that comes in the mind of tourists about
Hong Kong. And yet, the total protected areas in Hong Kong ranked rst in Asia and fth in the world (World
Economic Forum's 2015 Travel and Tourism Report), and that The Hong Kong Geopark gets a 4.5-star rating in
Tripadvisor.
