 BIKING AROUND EASTHAM
Those who drive through Eastham miss the point. To actually see Eastham, you need to take a road less traveled, like one of the two bike paths that cross Eastham. Res- taurants and bike shops have access to the trails. Explore wooded forests, kettle ponds, cranberry bogs, a salt marsh, winding creeks and eternal beaches. Perhaps this year you’ll try that bicycle built for two....
The Cape Cod Rail Trail is a paved, twenty-four mile ride that begins in Dennis and ends in Well eet. It travels the entire length of Eastham along what used to be the old Penn Central Railroad tracks. Most of the lodging in Eastham backs up to the rail trail, offering bicyclists easy accessibility and the opportunity to encounter Eastham’s natural charm and beauty. Midway through Eastham, the trail crosses under Route 6 via a bike tunnel.
The Nauset Bike Trail is a paved
trail which starts at the Cape Cod National Seashore Salt Pond Visitor Center (Nauset Road at Route 6) and ends 2 1⁄4 miles later at Coast Guard Beach (Doane Road at Ocean View Drive), leading you to magni cent vistas of the salt marsh and the Atlantic Ocean. The trail is wheelchair accessible. Additional park- ing is available at Doane Rock picnic area, which shortens the ride.
