EASTHAM – THEN AND NOW
Eastham is a quintessential paradise, where the Outer Cape begins. Originally called Nauset, Eastham is a narrow strip of rural country by marshes, ponds, bogs, and forests that are unharmed by time. It is bordered on the east with miles of the majestic Atlantic Ocean, and on its west by Cape Cod Bay.
Eastham is one of the rst pages in American history. First Encounter Beach is the site of the rst meeting between the Pilgrims and the American Indians. Descendants of May ower set- tlers still live in the area.Three of the original passengers are buried in the Old Cove Cemetery.
Eastham is now best-known Cape-wide and around the world for its spectacular beaches and sprawling conservation areas. As the Gateway to the Cape Cod National Seashore, both residents and visitors can revel in a land little changed.
Discover windmills, museums, and salt air breezes in the classic Cape Cod, known as Eastham.
