FOUNDATION
Depending on if they want full coverage or light coverage, you will need to decide if you should use an airbrush foundation or regular. If you are having a hard time determining their undertone, you can look at your client's wrist. If they have more of a green colour vein, that means they will likely have more of a red undertone (usually people with a red undertone are more fair). If your client has more of a blue colour to their veins they will have more of a yellow undertone. This is usually people with a deeper skin colour. If you cannot decide if their veins are green or blue, then they are considered neutral.
Make sure you get the right foundation colour before you start their makeup. Don't be afraid to wipe off the product. You can always test this on their neck until you are sure you have the right colour. When matching the tone of their foundation, you need to take into consideration their neck and body colour. Typically our face is lighter than our body, and you want to make sure your foundation matches the body shade, not the face shade.
CONCEALER
Moving on to concealer, you need to select a shade that is 2-3 shades lighter than their foundation. Apply this under the eyes, on the chin, forehead, and down the bridge of the nose. This may seem like a lot of concealer, but it will balance out the colour.
CREAM CONTOUR
Cream contour isn't for everyone, and you have to decide if they need it or not. Generally, if I have a client that is super fair, I will skip this step. But if my client can handle this, I will 100% do it. I apply cream contour in a "3" shape on their face, top of the forehead, under the cheekbone and under the jawline. If you have trouble finding the cheekbone tell your client to make a "kissy face" and follow the natural hollow of their cheek.
POWDER CONTOUR/BRONZER
After you use any cream products, you have to set them with powder to ensure they don't move around. Whether you are using a contour palette or a bronzer, this is the time! You just need to apply it right on top of the cream contour to set it into place.
BAKING
Since you have used cream concealer, and since we have to set our cream products, now is the time to bake the face and set the under-eye area. Why do we leave this until after we do the contour? I always do all the cream products first and then set afterward. If you set your concealer before you do your cream contour, things can get messy. Always remember to work with creams first and then powders. I apply my translucent setting powder under the eyes with a wet beauty sponge, and let the powder sit there until I finish up with the eyes.
