TALIESIN
Taliesin is the home, studio, school, and 800-acre property of iconic architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Located in rural Spring Green, Wright built Taliesin on his favorite boyhood hill in the Wisconsin River Valley, homesteaded by his Welsh grandparents.
With buildings spanning his career from 1896 to 1959 including two homes, a school, barn, windmill,
and a restaurant (designed in
1953), Taliesin provides a uniquely comprehensive look at a busy architect’s body of work. If you’ve been to a Wright building before, you will recognize something about that building here at Taliesin.
Built on the brow of the hill, Taliesin, which means “shining brow” in Welsh, is at the heart of a series
of buildings that Wright designed
for himself and his family. Other buildings include: Romeo & Juliet Windmill (1896), Hillside Home School (1903), Tan-y-Deri (1908), Hillside Drafting Studio (1932), Midway Barn (1949), Hillside Theater (1952), and the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center at Riverview Terrace (1967).
In 2019, Taliesin was inscribed as
part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the 20th Century Architecture
of Frank Lloyd Wright. It is the only public UNESCO site in Wisconsin. In 1976, Taliesin was declared a National Historic Landmark.
Plan your visit today and help
support the continued preservation
of Frank Lloyd Wright’s ideas and philosophies — including Taliesin, his “autobiography in wood and stone.”
