        The sailors’ stowing coil method doesn’t look as neat, but it better preserves the integrity of

        the coils (they’re less likely to snag when the rope is tossed out). Procedure: Coil the rope
        and double the last few feet to form a long loop. Wind the loop around the coil and secure
        with a pair of half hitches, as illustrated. Hang your rope from the loop at top.
