        Mountain climbers use the butterfly noose to attach carabiners or whenever they need a
        nonslip loop in the middle of a rope. Butterfly loops are secure and will accommodate a
        load in any direction. They can be spaced along a line to provide purchase points for a
        winch line—essential in canoe rescue work. Need to pull a long rope tight? Evenly spaced
        butterfly nooses will give each person a secure handhold. The knot is also handy for
        fastening gut leaders to monofilament fishing line. Like the bowline, the butterfly noose will
