YAL SUCCESS STORIES
Mobilize for Victory
Antonia Okafor| Creative Writer, Independent Journal Review | University of Dallas
YAL Role(s): Chapter President
Young Americans for Liberty is the reason why I decided to join the liberty movement. In 2015, I was a graduate student who knew that my views correlated less with one specific party but more with a collective form of ideas. These ideas represented my belief that less government meant more freedom and more opportunity for me to progress as an individual. YAL helped me to develop not only the intellectual knowledge of what it truly means to love liberty, but it also connected me to people, groups and think tanks that have been integral in my success today. In the short year since becoming a YAL member, I have worked on the Rand Paul for President campaign, taken a leadership role in the fight for campus carry, starred in an NRA commercial highlighting my passion for independent thinking, and am now embarking in the world of journalism where I will highlight issues important to my peers, my generation, and my quest to make liberty popular. I am also continuing my passion to spread liberty principles and empower women in my role as a leader within the Ladies of Liberty chapter in Dallas.
Christopher Harelson | Field Director, Americans for Prosperity | Latter Day Saints Business College
YAL Role(s): Utah State Chair, Chapter President
Thanks to my involvement with Young Americans for Liberty I have been able to serve as Chief of Staff to a 23 year state senator, worked on multiple issue-based and electoral campaigns, and recruited new libertarian leaders to the movement. These individuals will one day make great strides to advance individual liberty in the United States and throughout the world. Young Americans for Liberty is leading the charge in developing America’s next generation of liberty leaders.
Matt Arbos | Development and Research Assistant, Cato Institute | University of Central Florida
YAL Role(s): Chapter President
YAL provided me with the opportunity to become a leader. I started out just as a member and quickly became a chapter leader. I learned valuable skills while doing work with YAL. I learned about time management, organization, and communication. Now, I am able to put those leadership skills into action in my current position. YAL put me on the right path for a lifelong career in the liberty movement.
Austin Pickrell | Digital Manager, Atlas Network | New Mexico State University
YAL Role(s): New Mexico State Chair, Chapter President
Before I was introduced to YAL, I was a graphic design student with no idea where to go in life. Today? In large part thanks to YAL, I have my degree in Economics, work full time in the liberty movement, have a solid career path, and a chance to spread the ideas of freedom to hundreds of countries across the globe. My time with YAL taught me so much more than just political theory or Hayek quotes, it taught me leadership skills through it’s state chair program and chapter leadership roles. YAL also introduced me to a network of like-minded people who have become my closest friends, helped me develop and prepare to be a young professional in
D.C., and played an instrumental role in shaping the course of my entire future.
