 NUTRITION/LIFESTYLE
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
I have made a conscious effort every day to live a healthy lifestyle, and I truly believe that is the main reason I lived my dream of playing 7 seasons in Major League Baseball. This is not to say I was perfect. Did I indulge? Of course. I ate food that strayed from my healthy practices, I partied some, and I enjoyed myself, but I was able to keep myself in check. There were many times I said no to going out or taking a trip or whatever
temptation arose, because I was focused on achieving my goals. My passion for succeeding in baseball, for wanting to get the absolute most out of my potential, always outweighed my urge to let loose.
A healthy lifestyle means you choose to be active. Key word “choose.” As athletes being active is just part of the gig, you have practice and games and conditioning etc. It’s the work you’ll do while nobody is watching that will separate you in the end. This can look different in season vs. offseason. You’ll likely train more often and lift differently in the offseason, but don’t stop just because your year begins. I believe it’s important to continue those gains even when grinding through games. Just be smart, functional, and don’t overwork your body.
The key is to always stay in shape and not have to work to get in shape.
