to proclaim the Good News, the Gospel, of the coming Kingdom of God (Mark 16:15-16; Matt. 24:14). The other part of Christ’s commission is for the members of God’s Church to grow in the godly character of Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 3:18).
Being called means full involvement in and commitment to God’s purpose in one’s life in preparation for rulership with Him in His Kingdom (Daniel 7:27; Rev. 3:21; 2:26). This involves GROWING in one’s “holy calling” (2 Tim. 1:9) – overcoming in at least three main areas of life – overcoming Satan, the world and our ego-filled self – and as the apostle Paul put it, “to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called” (Eph. 4:1, NKJV). How does one do that? The apostle Peter answers, “As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your
conduct” (1 Pet. 1:15).
So, are you or have you been truly called by God? If this is so, you will have a deeply abiding belief that God exists, that He has a purpose for you and that He will be intimately involved in accomplishing the purpose for which He called you (Phil. 1:6). You will have an ongoing motivation to study God’s Word to seek a close relationship with Him, as we are told in James 4:8, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” As a result, you will come to understand the true doctrines of God, the truth about sin, the difference between what is sacred and what is profane, and you will have an inner peace and calm unlike any other; you will be motivated by the attitude of giving rather than getting – by being selfless instead of being selfish.
Having read all this, if you have been or are being called by God you will realize that nothing else matters. If so, may the Eternal God help you to take action now, while there is still time.
