                                                       55     Susanna walked 70 miles east to
                                                           Gonzales carrying her daughter,
                                                           Angelina. When she arrived, she gave
                                                           Houston the message. She also told
                                                           him what she witnessed at the Alamo.

                                                       56     Houston ordered everyone to
                                                           leave Gonzales. Then he burned the
                                                           town and marched his army east
                                                           toward San Jacinto.

                   57    On April 21, Santa Anna and his men were resting near San Jacinto.
                      Houston attacked and caught Santa Anna by surprise. As Houston’s army
                      charged, they shouted the battle cry, “Remember the Alamo!” The battle
                      was over in 18 minutes. This time, the Texians won.











































                                      On April 21, 1836, Texians battled Mexican
                                          soldiers at the Battle of San Jacinto.
