GENRE STUDY A biography is the story of a real person’s life
written by someone other than that person.
• Authors of biographies present events in sequential, or
chronological, order. This helps readers understand what
happened in the person’s life and when.
• Biographers may use literary language to present major
events in a person’s life. For example, the author may use
similes to describe how the person is feeling.
• Biographies include third-person pronouns, such as he, she,
him, her, his, hers, they, them, and their.
