Summary Highlights
January to March 2019 in brief:
One imported case of X-DR typhoid was reported from Brm. Two local cases of PF Malaria were reported from Dfr. gover-
governorate. No additional cases among 4 close contacts. norate. No additional cases were detected by screening of con-
tacts.
Three cases of AFP were reported from N. Btn, S. Shrq. &
Msct. governorates Six cases of CCHF were reported (Dkh. 3, Dfr. 1, S. Btn. 1 & N.
Btn. 1)
Thirteen cases of MERS CoV were reported (N. Btn. 9 and S.
Shrq. 4). Five of them expired. Eight cases of Measles were confirmed (Dkh. 5, Msct. 2 & Dfr.
1)
One case of Hib meningitis was reported from Muscat gover-
norate.
Eight cases of pneumococcal invasive disease were detected
( Msct. 5, Dfr. 2 and Dkh. 1)
Event-based Surveillance
One case of confirmed Melioidosis were reported from N. Shrq. governorate
Outbreaks
Dengue Fever in Muscat governorate (Ongoing from December 2018)
A total of 59 cases of locally transmitted cases reported from December 2018 to March 2019. Aedes aegypti elimination campaign in coordina-
tion with Muscat municipality was effectively carried out from 8th to 23rd January 2019 to control this outbreak. The date of onset of the last

reported confirmed local cases of Dengue was on 6 March 2019. The Outbreak ended on 4 April when there were no locally acquired cases of
Dengue for four weeks from the last reported case.
MERS-CoV in North Batinah Governorate (New)

Thirteen laboratory confirmed cases of MERS CoV were reported between 23 January to 12 February from North Batinah and South Sharqiyah
Governorates. Nine cases were from North Batinah and 4 cases from South Sharqiyah Governorate. Nine cases were among females and 4
among males. The average age was 50.1 years ( range 30 years to 77 years). Four cases expired. ( CFR 30.7%). 12 cases had a history of contact
with a confirmed case of MERS CoV. The source of infection in two cases was unknown. All other 11 cases had history of contact ( family/
hospital) with a confirmed case. 2 of the MERS CoV cases were among Health care workers.
