 1.1 Indemnity provided by this insurance is for loss of pedigreed animals by death as defined.
1.2 The policy provides cover to pedigreed animals attached to a risk address.
1.3 Cover can be extended to include shows or whilst in transit within the geographical limits of this section.
2. UNDERSTAND THE RISK
2.1 Is the animal certified?
2.2 Can the Insured verify the value insured for, is there a brochure available, and was the animal(s) bought at a public auction?
2.3 Farmers selling animals amongst each other happens all the time. It is not a good idea to provide cover for such animal(s) as the value will be a debating issue at the time of claims settlement.

Short-term period
3.1.1 Short-term period cover is not allowed: either the animal is insured for a full period of insurance or not at all.
Bloodstock
3.2.1 Horses (bloodstock) cannot be insured in terms of this section;
3.2.2 this is specialised cover and it is suggested this is referred to a specialist underwriter.
Temporary cover/hold covered
3.3.1 This is not allowed;
3.3.2 no cover can be granted telephonically or otherwise;
3.3.3 in all instances a duly completed proposal form and veterinary certificate, where applicable, are required.
Referral to Hollard
3.4.1 Refer to Hollard prior to acceptance of cover on values exceeding R35 000 (thirty five thousand rand) per animal;
3.4.2 veterinary certificates are required in all instances for animals where the value exceeds R35 000 (thirty five thousand rand).
Theft of Pedigreed animals
3.5.1 Theft in terms of pedigreed animals must be referred to Hollard.
Proposals

All policies or additions to a policy must have a proposal completed.
Typical

information on the proposal shall include:
batch number of auction;
full description of animal;
any markings on the animal, name and colour;
date of birth or age;
copy of the catalogue (indicating history and pedigree) when sold; use of the animal;
