3.5 Lapa’s and recreation areas
3.5.1 generally in the open and care should be taken where cover is required;
3.5.2 for thatch structures refer to the Thatch section.
3.6 Protection
3.6.1 the policy makes provision for a security warranty which always applies;
3.6.2 if it is agreed to waive this warranty for whatever reason it has to be stated in the Schedule as such;
3.6.3 risks located on farms are as prone to thefts and hold-ups as those in cities and complexes or else;
3.6.4 minimum protection should include barred windows and security gates;
3.6.5 rather walk away from a risk that is unprotected.
3.7 Security complexes
3.7.1 it is a myth that no crime takes place where security access applies;
3.7.2 thieves concentrate on the rich and wealthy and no matter what the security crime still happens;
3.7.3 insist on the minimum requirements:
3.7.3.1 24 (twenty four) hour access control;
3.7.3.2 wall height minimum 1.8m (one point eight) metres;
3.7.3.3 all opening windows must be barred (see Theft for specifications);
3.7.3.4 all externally leading doors must be fitted with sliding security gates;
3.7.3.5 alarms system linked to a radio controlled room and armed response;
3.7.3.6 CCTV systems.
3.8 Alternatives to burglar bars
3.8.1 there are alternatives available to burglar bars;
3.8.2 it is not acceptable in terms of the Hollard facility;
3.8.3 the window is simply removed and entry is gained;
3.8.4 aesthetically it looks better than bars but is useless and no real alternative to bars.
3.9 Vacant premises
3.9.1 avoid premises left vacant;
3.9.2 premises used as holiday homes and the like should be strictly underwritten and all possible measures should be imposed.
3.10 Zozo huts and the like:
3.10.1 specify and rate accordingly;
3.10.2 be careful not to insure high value contents within these huts;
3.10.3 it would be wise to limit the perils as these structures are situated outside and in the open exposed to the elements;
3.10.4 theft is a high exposure and it will be wise to either exclude or limit the cover.
3.11 Storage
3.11.1 only accept storage depots;
3.11.2 storage on farms or unattended premises must be avoided;
3.11.3 make sure the security arrangements are in place and acceptable;
3.11.4 not only theft poses a problem but also weather related perils.
3.12 Jewellery
3.12.1 all jewellery should be kept in a safe;
3.12.2 all jewellery should be valuated and a certificate not older than 2 (two) years kept on file;
3.12.3 the limit section will determine application.
