Beading is a harmful tradition practiced in Turkana that promises a girl for marriage. Girls are often beaded between the age of 9-12 and not allowed to go to school. A beaded girl fetches double the dowry of a non-beaded girl. While the practice
is outlawed, extreme poverty has kept the tradition alive.
