RITA’S COMMUNITY ROOM
A Cherished Space for Wellbeing and Gatherings
The community room at our Kevin Street estate,
affectionately known as Rita’s Room, has been
refurbished thanks to a generous donation from
Mr. Tom Keefe in memory of his wife, Rita.
This revitalisation has transformed the space
into a hub for residents and the wider community
at Kevin Street. The room hosts a range of
activities and serves as a venue for various
events and programmes.
One of the key groups utilising the room is the
South Area Youth Service (SAYS), which organises
activities for children. SAYS offers after-school
programmes with one-hour sessions tailored to
different age groups, starting from ten years old.
The activities are primarily chosen by the young
participants, with guidance from the Youth Work
team. These activities include games, drawing,
arts and crafts, computer and PlayStation games,
and music.
In addition to youth activities, the Trust’s
Tenant Liaison Officer hosts weekly gatherings
for older residents. These gatherings have
become an important part of the community’s
routine, offering a social outlet and fostering
camaraderie among residents. Bingo is especially
popular, attracting a lively crowd each week
and providing a fun, interactive way for residents
to connect.
